Surin Restaurant

Thai, Lao & Cambodian Cuisine. The Surin restaurant is only a seven minute walk from the hotel yet specialises in three exotic Asian cuisines: Thai, Cambodian & Lao.

Surin is named after the hometown of the chef and owner, Miss Damrong, who has worked in gourmet restaurants in London for many years including the Nipa Thai at Lancaster Gate Hotel near Hyde Park and Chaopraya near Bond St which is England's oldest Thai restaurant. Miss Damrong has also cooked for the Thai royal family and featured in cooking magazines such as Waitrose.

She has been filmed at Surin and interviewed for a BBC2 food programme called "The Nation's Favourite Foods". Miss Damrong and Surin have also featured in Kent on Sunday, The Daily Telegraph, Thanet Gazette and The Kent Messenger.

MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

The Spitfire & Hurricane Museum

I have always loved history. And none more so that learning about the heroic exploits of our young fighter pilots during the Battle of Britain in the hot summer of 1940. Here in this charming museum (about a 10 minute drive from the hotel) you will find a Supermarine Spitfire and a Hawker Hurricane in wonderful condition together with an amazing assortment of associated aviation material...quite fascinating! There is a small cafeteria appropriately named 'The Merlin' beautifully positioned next door so that you can gaze out over this old RAF base whilst you enjoy a good value light lunch. It's difficult not to look heavenwards in some silent tribute once you leave.

Free admission. Free carparking. Open throughout the year.

The Museum also hosts temporary exhibitions. The Maritime Heritage Trail Poject

The Maritime Heritage Trail Project is a co-operation project between the areas of Medway, Kent and Nord Pas de Calais. It aims at promoting increased awareness and understanding of the Transmanche region's rich maritime cultural heritage and to develop and promote the tourism potential of that resource for the benefit of the region, its residents and visitors.

This sounds like some Euro babble, but any organisation that promotes the coast and maritime culture has my backing!

Thanet Coast Project

Stacks_at_BotanyBay,Kingsgate

The Thanet Coast, together with Pegwell Bay, is an internationally important place for wintering birds and the marine life associated with the chalk cliffs, caves, reefs and sandy bays. It is also nationally important for the geology, the chalk stacks and arch, and some of the area's coastal plants.  It's a great website which highlights many activities during the year. So come stay with us at The Royal Harbour Hotel and and join in with Rock Doc walks to Marine Week.
